That was then (Germany,1945) ....                            This is now (Sudan, 2005) .....

I've asked myself many times, "why didn't people back then (in 1945) do something to stop the subjugation and slaughter of millions of people?".....and then I was humbled to realize that there are millions of people today (in 2005) who are being subjugated and/or slaughtered....and I haven't done anything to help or stop it .....

Until Now...

Hi Everyone, Thank you so much for taking the time to review my website! I want to take this opportunity to introduce you to a cause that that has not received much mainstream media attention: The Modern-Day Holocaust in DarFur.

Text Box: About the Runner
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Sharie, and I am running in this year's LA Marathon to benefit the hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of victims of genocide in Darfur, Sudan. As I began to tell my friends about the cause for which I was running, I was saddened to find that most people had not heard of Darfur and the atrocities that are occurring today in that region. Upon this discover, I decided to start my own website so that I could introduce more people to this crisis, with the hopes of brining more attention and aid to these suffering people.

Thus, my primary objectives for "Running 4 Darfur" are three-fold:

Text Box:
1) To raise AWARENESS.....so that most Americans know about the genocide in Darfur.
2) To raise FUNDS.....so that we can help the victims and refugees to be safe and survive.
3) To generate POLITICAL PRESSURE.....so that our country and other countries will not tolerate this kind of genocide ANYWHERE....EVER!!!!

Will you please help me by supporting this effort and passing the message on to your domestic and international friends? There's a lot more of us (who want to help) than there are of them (who want to hurt). Perhaps together we can build an impetuous for change and actually stop what is occurring upon this earth that we all share!

Thanks so much.....Sharie

More About the Cause

"Not since the Rwanda genocide of 1994 has the world seen such a calculated campaign of slaughter, rape, starvation and displacement." Source: Save Darfur Website: www.savedarfur.org

The Sudanese government-supported ethnic cleansing campaign has devastated the people of its region:

  •  200,000 civilians killed
  •  1.6 million people displaced from their homes
  •  600,000 people fleeing the country & living in refugee camps
  •  200,000 + living in camps with inadequate food, shelter, sanitation, and health care.
  •  Out of the 154 camps, only 82 have received food, leaving 72 locations unassisted.
  •  Mortality (death) rates in camps are well above emergency thresholds (one per 10,000 per day)
  •  Thousands of people maimed and tortured
  •  405 villages burned; 123 villages damaged
  •  Ariel bombing attacks on civilian villages
  •  Countless women and young girls rapped

The following photos have been selected from the referenced websites. They depict the carnage and devastation that the people of this region have experienced.

The genocide in Darfur (2005) is strikingly similar to the genocide in World War II Germany (1945).
